FAQs

This page contains a range of popular questions which are intended to ensure that members of the public have all the information needed on the proposals. New questions may be added to this page as potential plans progress. Please let us know if there are any other questions that you would like answered.

Will these solar panels cause glint or glare?

There will be no glint or glare. Solar panels are designed to absorb light and not reflect it, they therefore pose little risk of glint or glare. Solar Farms are often found along side roads and there are even solar panels near to the runway at Bournemouth Airport.

Is there any pollution or noise pollution associated with solar panels?

Solar panels produce electricity from sunlight, they create no pollution or noise. The only slight noise is from the process of converting direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) by the inverters which cannot be heard beyond a few feet.

Is the battery storage safe?

The battery storage proposals have already received a planning consent. The battery storage facility planned on site is very safe. These battery storage systems use Lithium Ion batteries, the same type used safely in mobile phones and laptops etc. Battery storage typically uses shipping containers and these facilities include venting, cooling systems, fire detection and are monitored continually.

Do solar panels heat the air around them?

Solar panels absorb the suns energy and convert it into electricity, this process creates a small amount of heat which on a farm of this size, would be small.

Is EMF (Electromagnetic Frequencies) a danger?

EMF created by the solar panels is no more dangerous that the EMF from usual home appliances. Studies measuring EMF levels at solar farms have been found to be insignificant.

Are solar panels recyclable?

Solar panels mostly comprise of glass, silica, plastic and metals including aluminium, steel, copper all of which can be recycled.

Has an application been submitted?
