History and Background

Trant is a leading construction provider to the energy sector, committed to providing safe, high-quality design and build engineering solutions to customers across the power and distribution industry. Customer care is at the forefront of the business and shapes the way we design, deliver and commission our projects.

Trant has owned Great Fletchwood Farm for a number of years. As we explained, for many years the farm has served no agricultural purpose, the farm buildings are used for storage, and horses and alpacas are kept on the land.

In 2023, the existing agricultural buildings received a planning approval for a battery energy storage use. It was agreed that the battery storage use will be contained within the buildings and not visible from outside.

Trant has spent time surveying the site, including the fields behind the old farm buildings. Trant has considered a number of possible uses for the land, this has included returning it as a farm, however, the size of the farm prevents its viability solely as a livestock farm. Much of the land is of low quality and doesn’t drain well towards Bartley Water which restricts potential uses and prevents the land being used for crops.
